This café continues the progress of the cohort of West Midlands Green museums and explores how green museums can engage their visitors and encourage them to support their improvements.

All museum staff and volunteers are welcome, whether you are part of the cohort or not.  Our cafés are a mix of training, knowledge sharing, access to expert information & meeting new partners.

Audience and Interpretation expert Kate Measures will be leading a session on communicating our sustainability messages to our visitors.  Zoe Hanks, grassrootsideas will be updating us on how staff behavioural change is happening in our museums. Also the usual technical updates, connections with suppliers, and news of funding and engineering projects (tbc)

10.15 – 12.45 Kate Measures: Green is the new black: Engaging visitors with the green museums agenda
12.45 Lunch & networking
1.30 Sharing, updating and planning:

  • Birmingham Museums Trust Green team updates (TBC)
  • Support for Green Champions and Green Angels across the cohort (Zoe Hanks)
  • Round table updates: solutions and problems
  • How the figures are stacking up
  • Green Business Tourism Awards
  • Funding opportunities – for individual sites and group projects

All museum staff and volunteers are welcome (Priority for West Midlands) Places are free

(please note to ensure public funds are not wasted, a £30 charge will be made to those who book but don’t show and don’t give reasonable notice of cancellation)

In 2013, thirteen museums have begun a journey towards a greener future with the Reducing Bills: Going Green, Marches Network: Museum Development programme.
